This is Charley, a black and tan German Shepherd mix. I worked on my husband about getting a puppy (it took a few years, we already had a cat and another shepherd mix, Cinder) and when he finally said, “maybe”, I took the chance and ran with it.
I found Charley on Petfinder. He was so sickly when he came to be with us. The woman who rescued him and his littermates told us that they were found in a cardboard box at a construction site. He was the littlest one at four pounds. The vet told us he was probably only four to five weeks old. He had no teeth and had many different parasites. We had to bottle feed him and mush up puppy food with puppy milk. He went to the vet almost every week for the first three months we had him.
At three years old, he’s happy, healthy and spoiled. He loves his “big sister” Cinder and loves to play with her. We credit him with getting Cinder up and playing despite her bad arthritis. He also loves playing with the newest addition to our family, Clone, a one year old orange tabby. He is also very loving and loves to give us kisses. We are greeted every single morning with wet dog kisses. People talk about that one dog…I think Charley is that dog for me. I believe in rescue, that’s why all of our four animals are rescues. – Julie
I love this shot – what a great puppy pose! That’s a plush buffalo in bed with Charley… Thanks for sharing, Julie, and keep up the rescuing!
Tomorrow is the very last Dog Each Day! It’s been a long year (those Chinese calendars add some extra weeks, don’t they?) but very enjoyable. I am still working on details of the book, so please stay tuned. It’s difficult to draw a dog every day AND work on a book (and go to my day job), so it may be another week or two before I spell out details. It will be self-published initially, MAY have the option of getting your dog’s art on the cover (if it’s been a Dog of the Day) and will feature one dog per page – that’s close to four hundred pages. Whew! See you all tomorrow…

I’ve checked in every day and I’m always pleased with your work. Your work is simply beautiful and very genuine. I am sad to see the Year of the Dog end tomorrow.

/ February 16, 2007About Charley, I just want to reach out and rub that puppy belly!!!!!
We have just loved your site, yet sadly having only learned of it very recently!! WHAAAAA! Yes, I heard the Chinese have decided to stick with year of the dog too. Next year, year of the Monkey is repeating, then year of the cat, then year of the dog and year of the monkey and so on…. But another year of the dog! We are all addicted!!! I am sure you can read that in our messages!
Thank you for your beautiful work! We have you on our opening Tabs to see the Dog Each Day. We will miss you, as we became addicted as soon as we discovered you!!
