Most of our animals are specials needs animals and live with us on a permanent basis. Those that have been well adjusted before they came to us will be adopted out. But, most of them have been through such horrible ordeals, that it takes a while for them to even trust us, therefore, it would be cruel to put them out again.
Joplin is a deaf Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler). We were contacted by a shelter asking if we would consider taking him because he was scheduled to be put down the next day. We took Joplin and he now lives with us and is being trained by hand signals. He now has a deaf brother that is also an Australian Cattle Dog and they romp and play and have a wonderful life. – Adrienne Schesnol-Kimmons

I have had the opportunity to meet Joplin in “person” and was so impressed with his intelligence and disposition. He is a good PR guy for the Blue Moon Sanctuary, which is a very impressive organization. These folks do great work finding homes for animals in need, helping families who can’t afford vet care for their pets, rehabilitating wildlife and especially providing permanent homes and medical treatment for animals that will never be adopted because of their age, their handicap or illness, or the degree of their traumitization. Great drawing, Larry, and great cause.
Wow what lucky dogs that they have you! Most people shy away from a special needs animal. You are awesome for taking them in!
This story and drawing really touched me. I so admire the souls that do this extrodinary work. Your are very special and Larry’s rendition of Joplin is just awesome.
