Baxter

Baxter is a “Sato”, slang in Puerto Rico for street dog. He was born on the streets as a stray in Puerto Rico, and was rescued from certain death by a wonderful group called Save A Sato.

Baxter was rescued as a puppy with his siblings and mother and sent to Connecticut for adoption. He lived in two homes prior to coming to me, the first of which returned him after he became ill, suffering from malnourishment and a neurological disease. Today he is a happy, healthy 4 year old. No one knows for sure what breed he is, but he definitely has a mixture of terrier and whippet, although we affectionately refer to him as a Sato.

Baxter and his “sister”, MacKenzie (also a Sato), have become ambassadors on behalf of the Satos, educating people about the plight of the dogs of Puerto Rico. They attend many community service events through out the year, and are regular participants in local parades riding aboard a Fire Engine. www.saveasato.org – Tracey

If some of this writeup sounds familiar, I used parts for each pup, Baxter and MacKenzie. Thanks for teaching me (and I’m sure many others) about Satos and sharing their stories, Tracey!
